UNION WITH GOD MAKES UNION WITH US

Oneness is not Christian unity. We can experience a veneer of unity when we are not personally living in oneness with God. There are degrees of so called, Christian unity that have more to do with hierarchy, social control and closed-mindedness than they do with our oneness with the being of God. Loyalty to a Christian organisation may not be oneness with God. You have one Husband who is Christ.
BEING
‘Being’ means that our person and agency is the effect of our oneness with God.
Paul declared, ‘For in him we live and move and have our being, 'As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring' Acts 17.28 NIV.
MORE THAN A HUDDLE
Community to God is the kind of oneness enjoyed by the trinity. It is this oneness that we share in Jesus Christ. The ability to be one with self and with others comes as Christ is expressed in us. We have our being in God. Or we don’t, because we have it in ourselves as ‘self-made’ men and women in the world or in the props of religion. Living externalities does not make us Godly. Christ in us and as us makes us Godly and human.
ONE SUBSTANCE
Since the cross we are one with God. The Lord’s Table is the sign and the celebration of our living in oneness with God. The rite is the perfect example of ‘one substance.’ The life of Christ becomes our life – not when we partake of the elements but in our believing that Christ is our life. The Lord’s Table is the sign and celebration of our one substance with God. It is also the reminder that incarnation is our life.
THE ONE SPIRIT
‘For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit’ 1 Cor 12.13 ESV. In Jesus we drink of the oneness who is God. Our soul become one and we exude peace and togetherness.
‘But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him’ 1 Cor 6.17 NLT. This is to say that we are ‘one’ in the oneness that God is in His trinitarian nature.
‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. This is the day we are born again into the ability to be ‘a together person’ and live fruitful togetherness with others.
NOT AN EXTERNALITY
Oneness with God is not about institutional unity. The oneness that is ours is a radical and complete oneness that is not words but a state of being that is ours on account of the atonement and the mystery of the incarnation. The trinity lives in us and shares the togetherness that is theirs with those who believe.
‘That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me’ John 17.21 NIV.
